Week 2- Kyle Hayes

My apologies, it seems that my original post did not submit, so I will just re-post it.

This week teams were formed and we were introduced to our other members. Working in a group is nothing new and rarely gets easier, there will always be disagreements over how to proceed but over the past two terms many students have gotten use to these types of problems. From my experience I have found that it is best to take the best ideas from each individuals design and try to put them together if it is possible, also to determine which is the best, the individual must support their idea with evidence or an explanation and must accept that their idea might be turned down or modified. The teams were also told to download west point bridge designer and register for a local competition.

After short testing with west point it has come to my attention that the areas that tend to fail are the end points and the middle, probably because the most force goes through these areas.

I will have images of designs, costs and more analysis for next weeks post.

Week 2 - Yilei Jiang

During this week, we set up a team and was getting know each other, like the basic information. This team is made of three different engineering, which are environmental, architectural and mechanical. That might  let the team stronger than other because we have various ideas and advices from diverse aspects.
In the team work, conflicts are always existing. For example, one team member has a idea for building   a bridge and another team member has a different idea. Both of them think that they are right. Then we can talk about the possibilities or ask the advisor that which one is better. The big problem of this project is how to design a low-price bridge. So we should discuss the decision before we make it and then give time to "mull" on it. Often I think that time can produce changed minds and got better decisions.
I also think that meeting could be happened regularly- ideally twice a week. Once is in the lab and another one can be at weekends. I think that we also can ask a meeting with advisor if it's necessary. We could set up a agenda for meeting.
We don't have to work together even if it is a teamwork. We can add up the ideas or the work we have done in the end, however, we should first take apart the whole project . For example, the building part, the testing part, the measuring part and etc..  Accomplishing them part by part will make the whole progress a lot of easier.

week 2 - Bai Xue

This week we basic get know a little bit about each team members and fill out the group information sheet. buy the perception on the class i know the basic information about this class. get know about what would we do in the upcoming 10weeks. next week we will start on our topic about the bridge design. we will start with the basic. learn little by little. next lab we will start our first bridge design. i was exciting about that.
Work as a term is not an easy thing to do. Different people have different idea about same thing. As a group we need to find a way to work together and present a good work. Sharing is the most important thing in the group. We will share work, share idea, share difficult. From the point we from a group we basic made a big family. There must have a time that we have contradiction about something. I think the best way is to talk thought. Get a middle way to solve it. If that cannot solve it, then get some compromise done. There must have one way or another way we can solve the problem. In the middle of the ten weeks, there will be a time that one group member is not satisfied with other’s work. Human is not perfect, our work may not be perfect. I believe every one will try the best to do the work. If other member does not satisfy the work, that other member could help this member to do the work. We should have a free talk space. When someone have any problem or suggest should said it at the first time do not wait it to be to late to say. I believe our group will become a nice group and we will get a good grade on this Couse.
